Ute Bike Stands

There are times when you need to transport your bike with your vehicle. You have several options but perhaps the easiest way is to stand the bike up in the rear tray of your ute, on your trailer or even inside your van.

As you can see from the pictures on the left we have been transporting our bikes in this way for years. Obviously transporting them inside a van is the easiest option as you can leave the bicycles inside when you go out for a meal or when you get home as you never have to worry about the security of your bikes. Although transporting them on the back of a ute or trailer is just as safe provided you bring a cable lock with you if you ever need to leave the bikes on the vehicles unattended somewhere.

Now in case you are wondering, the bicycle stands in these pictures are normal everyday 3 bike parking stands as shown elsewhere on our website. If you are looking for a stand to fit inside a van, or in a tub tray on a ute, then a 3 bike stand is probably the biggest you can safely accommodate.

On the other hand, the aluminium tray on the back of my single cab ute is 1800mm wide, and therefore I can accommodate a 5 bike stand on the back fully loaded. The carrying capacity of your trailer will depend largely on the style of trailer that you have and what else you need to carry at the same time.

And one final point – just remember that the bike stand is just that – it holds you bike upright but does not secure it in place. After you have placed the stand in the tray and put the bikes in the stand you will still need to tie the bikes in position. Depending on your requirements, you can use anything from standard rope to elastic straps, but we find ratchet straps the best. The first picture on the left shows how we used to secure bikes when we were first moving them around in a van.
